Dani G Without noticing much, now I've seen several Joachim Trier and/or Anders Danielssen films, and I have liked very much the work of these two. Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/20/24 Full Review favio c Una experiencia fugaz que te atrapa por amor al arte y la amistad, dando inicio a uno de los mejores directores de las ultimas dos decadas. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/29/23 Full Review isla s This is very much a quirky coming of age film about two initially budding teenage writers. It focusses on the punk/alternative music scene of the time its set in. It's sad and uplifting at different times...a somewhat thoughtful watch. The use of a narrator to explain what may have happened, in different circumstances, I thought was interesting. Yes its worth seeing. I particularly liked the youthful energy felt it in some scenes. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a beautiful movie to look at, a common trait of Joachim Trier's work. The acting is generally strong, with consistent, confident work by Danielsen Lie, Klouman Høiner (what's w/ the 3-word names?), and Winge. I love Trier's later films, but this is a muddled mix of fits and starts. It's about what you'd expect from a first full-length production. I guess Phillip is supposed to represent the angst-ridden youth type (I won't use that other vastly re-hashed cliched phrase), and Erik the sunnier, dreamer type (?). But I found them (and their meathead friends) flaky and fairly unlikable. Unlike Trier's other movies, this one left me bored and wanting to jump ahead to finish it. Plus, it kinda had a review of itself in it- some of the early bits are good, but then it gets too poetic or changes gears too much. Is this some attempt at a 'Jules & Jim' film? I've seen that classic referred to when reviewing 'Reprise'. Was it Trier trying to bring in a hipster element to these characters or was it just him trying to look cool/hip with some of the references (Joy Division & Smiths shirts, song choices, product placement). Maybe this is an age-locked type of movie, not for those past a certain age. Still, The Ramones are for kids, not so much for those who know why Charlie don't surf or why the new groups in their burton suits are really just turning rebellion into money. 2.8 stars Rated 2.5/5 Stars • Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member For a film debut, Reprise is excellent, Joachim Trier already shows potential. It's not perfect and sometimes I felt sleepy, but the main story is dense, original, and the countdowns are "freezing". The interpretations are rather restrained, sometimes too restrained, but it combines with the constantly heavy atmosphere. Phillip and Erik are in roles that are the opposite of the cliché. The depressed guy is the successful one. Phil's relationship with Kari is amazingly built, they have all the chemistry of the world in a moment and absolutely nothing in another (Viktoria Winge is sensational). And Erik's arc of continuing to pursue the dream of being a writer but without his best friend, at the same time he tries to reconnect with him is also emotional. Tomorrow is "Oslo August 31st" time. Rated 4/5 Stars • Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Adis M Overrated film that costs a lot of time but tries little to entertain. Unfortunately it mostly shows pubescent adults and someone who is depressed. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/28/21 Full Review Read all reviews
